Welcome to XDE

The Xuejuan Dance Ensemble (XDE) was founded in 2009 by Xuejuan Feng, with the mission of providing education and performance opportunities in the art of Chinese folk and classical dance. Since its inception, the ensemble has welcomed and nurtured amateur, pre-professional, and professional dancers of differing ages and backgrounds. The ensemble offers training in technique and repertoire to pre-teens, teens, and adults through a diverse curriculum directed by professional educators. Participants are given exceptional performance opportunities in a variety of venues in the Washington DC Metro Area.

Class Types

XDE classes are structured to give dance students a comprehensive training program that maximizes their individual artistic potential. Our classes are divided into three major categories; dance class series, technique class series, and competition/performance class series. Within each series, classes are further categorized based on age and/or levels.

Dance Classes

Introduction:

Through these classes, students will not only have fun but also learn to experience and appreciate China’s diverse cultures and rich traditions.

Age:

All ages. More detailed age range will be provided in class description.

Chinese Classical:

Opera style, HanTang style, Dunhuang style, and more.

Folk/Ethnic Dances:

Han, Dai, Miao, Tibetan, Uighur, Mongolian, Korean, and more.

Contemporary Dances:

Chinese fusion/Chinese jazz, K-pop, Hip-hop/street dance

Technique Classes

Introduction:

These classes contain foundational lessons that give our students the technical skills needed for a variety of dances.

Age:

All ages. More detailed age range will be provided in class description.

Skills:

Flexibility, Core strength building, Jumps & leaps, Turns & spins, Tumbling, Aerials skills, Ballet, Shenyun (breathing technique and movement style that are essential and unique to Chinese classical dance)

Competition/Performance Classes

Introduction:

Students receive rigorous training that prepares them both mentally and physically for competitions or performances. Students learn award winning dances from the most prestigious dance institutions and competitions in China. Participation requires instructor’s approval.

Age:

All ages. More detailed age range will be provided in class description.
